The wine producing Tiezzi estate carries the name of its
proprietor, Enzo Tiezzi, noted agronomist-ecnologist from Montalcino
who has always been occupied with viticulture and enology in the
Sienese territory and in particular at Montalcino where he has for many
years been active as a Director, Consultant Enologist to agricultural
farms of important fame, and as an Board Member and President of the
Consorzio of Brunello wine of Montalcino.
During the 1980's Doctor Tiezzi decided to establish his
own estate with the initial acquisition of "Il Cerrino", one of three
properties which today form his total holding, and a few years later
the farm "Cigaleta". A love for the history of Montalcino, and research
of traditions, prompted Tiezzi to acquire the historic farm "Soccorso"
of long established illustrious origins because of its association with
the life of Prof. Riccardo Paccagnini, recently defined "a pioneer of
Brunello", one of the first Montalcinesi to produce and to
commercialise Brunello; in fact it was here, in the year 1870 that the
first wine with the label "Brunello" was born, a wine that obtained
important recognition at Rome, Parigi, Marseille and Bordeaux.
The Brunello Soccorso achieved numerous attestations, medals and prizes
in the 1800's; all of these are presently housed at my estate as
historical documentation of fundamental importance.
The Estate Tiezzi is comprised of the three farms
mentioned abovewith a combined total surface of around 10 hectares
located in diverse zones of the Montalcino territory, of which 5.50 are
cultivated to Sangiovese (Brunello) and 3 to olives. You'll find
the Cigaleta and Cerrino vineyards approximately 3 kilometres from
Montalcino to the north-east, along the state road of Brunello in the
direction of Siena at a height of 350 mtrs above sea level. The heart
and jewel of the estate is the historic vineyard Soccorso which is also
the headquarters, the cantina, the offices, and direct sales as well as
the agriturismo. Situated a few steps from the historic centre of
Montalcino, adjacent to the wall of the 1300's and the Sanctuary of the
Madonna del Soccorso church, the Soccorso vineyard is approximately 500
metres above sea level and directionly south-west.
