The
cooperative society “AGRICOLA PLINIANA”, was founded in January 1964
and in 1972 the cooperative, just built, received the first grape
harvest.
Nowdays the “PLINIANA” processes on average 100 thousand quintals a
year of grapes, it has 800 members that in one amount to one thousand,
five hundred hectares of grape area. It is in Manduria, a nice town
with a vine vocation, in a barycentric position among Taranto, Brindisi
and Lecce, “Salento” , Apulia-Italia. The grapes, mainly produced and
processed are those typical of the plain of Manduria.
The PRIMITIVO, that fructifies in the best way in our calcareous soils,
scanty, close to the coast ( Gulf of Taranto ), in a dry-coastal
microclimate, is certainly a rare grapes, extremely delicate. The
accurate, patient, perennial obstinacy that our peasants use in the
vineyard; the severe selection of the grapes, the conferment in the
cellar; the constant control of our technicians during the vinification
that carry out exclusively in thermo-conditioned systems( auto
wine-maker, tanks , soft pressing )and it is always helped by selected
yeasts; they bring to that peculiar and complex system of perfumes and
tastes, really rare that is called “ PRIMITIVO DI MANDURIA”.
